When it came time to choose a homeschool curriculum for Lucy, I wanted something that was both academically rich and beautiful in every sense—visually, spiritually, and developmentally. After trying a few options, The Good and The Beautiful became our home base.
This curriculum isn’t just comprehensive—it’s purposeful. It reinforces strong moral character, instills a love for nature, literature, and art, and offers structured learning that’s easy to follow while being deeply meaningful. It has grown with Lucy, and honestly, with me too.
🌟 Why We Chose The Good and The Beautiful
- Academically Rigorous, Yet Gentle: Lucy is only five (almost six!) and already working one-third of the way through the third grade Language Arts and Math programs. The curriculum supports advanced learners while maintaining age-appropriate pacing and heart.
- Visually Engaging: The materials are full of beautiful, classic illustrations that feel timeless and inspiring. The art lessons and picture studies are a favorite in our home.
- Morally Grounded: This curriculum is rooted in strong values, yet it’s non-denominational and inclusive in its tone—something I appreciate as we aim to raise children who are both grounded and open-hearted.
- Well-Rounded Subjects: In addition to Language Arts and Math, we’ve loved diving into Science, Nature, Handwriting, and Art. Each subject integrates beauty, truth, and goodness into its lessons, living up to the name.
📘 Curriculum Highlights We’ve Loved
- Language Arts: Clear, structured, and filled with wonderful stories and phonics instruction. Lucy’s reading comprehension and vocabulary have flourished thanks to this program.
- Math: Conceptual learning is emphasized over memorization. Manipulatives, mental math, and real-world problem solving help Lucy think like a mathematician.
- Science Units: The themed science units—like Arthropods and Water & Our World—are full of fascinating facts and hands-on learning ideas. They spark curiosity and lead to rabbit trails of discovery.
- Nature Study & Art: These components are woven into the core subjects and help create a rhythm that honors wonder, quiet observation, and the joy of creating.
- Handwriting: The gentle prompts and copywork help reinforce grammar and spelling while developing fine motor skills.
🌼 A Curriculum That Feels Like Childhood
There’s a quiet kind of magic in The Good and The Beautiful—it honors the sacredness of childhood while offering solid academics. It’s a reminder that learning doesn’t have to be loud or flashy to be effective—it can be lovely, natural, and light-filled.
We are deeply grateful for this curriculum and how it’s supported Lucy’s love of learning and allowed her gifts to shine. If you’re on the fence about what curriculum to start with—or looking to make a change—I highly recommend giving it a look.
