Delayed, Detoured, and Deeply Grateful: A Travel Tale with a Twist

Well… we almost made it home smoothly. 😂

Our travel plans were cancelled, rebooked, rescheduled, delayed, re-delayed, flipped inside out, and spun around more times than a toddler in a swivel chair.

We left our dreamy vacation in Mexico only to be told—surprise!—our flight was cancelled. 😑

Then:

✈️ New flight booked for the next day.

🧠 Richard—bless this man—figured it all out like some kind of travel ninja.

🚐 Rushed to the shuttle.

🏃‍♀️ Rushed to the new flight with a completely different airline.

🎯 Landed in layover city.

🍽️ Tried THREE restaurants—fail, fail, fail.

✈️ Flight home delayed.

🛫 Flight home has no crew… delayed again.

🌩️ Storm rolls in. Turbulence warnings. Great.

🕐 Landed in Detroit at 1am… wrong terminal. Needed a shuttle.

🚘 Too tired to drive.

🏨 Checked into an overpriced hotel in Brighton.

🛗 Elevators broken. OF COURSE THEY ARE.

🧳 It’s 2:30am and we’re carrying bags and a sleeping 6-year-old up three flights of stairs. I mean, after the day we had, why not?

But then…

💙 Anderson and Richard playing slap hands in the middle of the chaos like it’s a bonding moment from a movie.

💗 Lucy, ever the queen of optimism, launches herself onto the hotel bed with uncontainable glee and declares: “This is the best place ever!” I think she actually fell asleep mid-jump.

In the middle of what felt like a comedy of errors, I got to watch my husband become a real-life superhero and my kids light up the night with joy and resilience.

So how cool is that? In the thick of travel disaster, I’m surrounded by laughter, love, and grace. My heart is full. 💕
