Parenting with Purpose

Why Vacationing Together Matters (And It Doesn’t Have to Be Fancy)

When we think of vacation, it’s easy to picture pricey plane tickets, resorts, and extravagant itineraries. But the heart of a meaningful family getaway doesn’t live in the price tag—it lives in the pause. The break from routine. The togetherness.

We’re currently headed to Mackinac Island—a beloved Michigan gem with no cars, no chains, and no hurry. We’ll bike around the island with the kids, play frisbee in the open air, walk the marina and giggle at the clever boat names, fly kites in the breeze, indulge in a bite (or three) of authentic fudge, and ride horses while imagining what life might’ve felt like generations ago.

But most importantly, we’ll slow down on purpose.

Because vacationing together—whether it’s a full-blown trip or a weekend camping in your backyard—isn’t about escaping real life. It’s about making space within it. Space to see each other again. To reconnect. To make memories that anchor us through the whirlwind of everyday responsibilities.

These trips don’t have to be perfect or pricey. They just have to be intentional.

So if you’re wondering if a quick getaway is worth it… it is.

Not because of where you go, but because of who you go with. ❤️
