🐾 Not About Me: Raising Good Givers

We went to the beach yesterday… but not for the kids.

We went for the dogs.

Yep—today was all about our fur kids. Splashing in the waves, chasing their favorite beach ball and a frisbee, getting soaked and sandy, and loving every second of it.

But what surprised me most was how good it felt—for all of us.

There’s something incredibly valuable about making space for moments that aren’t centered around our kids. We love pouring into them, of course. They’re our hearts. But it’s equally important for them to witness life not always revolving around them. To watch the joy of doing something special for someone (or in this case, some-dogs) else. To be part of a moment that is intentionally about giving rather than receiving.

And you know what? They didn’t complain. They didn’t feel left out. In fact, they joined in. They helped make the day magical for our dogs—laughing at wet, wiggly fur, tossing the frisbee, and running barefoot along the shore. They became good givers just by living the moment.

That’s the thing about raising kids who shine: it’s not just about their talents or their learning—it’s about helping them become thoughtful people. People who notice others. People who love deeply. People who give generously without needing the spotlight.

Today wasn’t about them.

And yet, I think it’ll be one of the days they remember most.
