Poetry with a Purpose: Beauty, Literacy, and Phonics All in One

Each morning, Lucy and I begin our day with poetry—and these moments have quickly become a treasured part of our homeschool rhythm. The Good and The Beautiful has created two poetry readers that are so much more than beautiful books. They’re gentle invitations into the world of rhyme, rich vocabulary, and moral depth. And best of all? They’re grounded in phonics-based learning.

Each chapter targets a specific phonetic focus—from blends and digraphs to vowel teams and sight words—making this an effortless way to incorporate language instruction into something that feels light and lovely. The table of contents even highlights the focus of each chapter (see photo for reference), and I’ve found it’s a wonderful way to reinforce phonics without it ever feeling dry or repetitive.

Some of our favorite parts:

📖 Gorgeous, diverse illustrations 💬 Gentle morals and thought-provoking themes 🔤 Phonics reinforcement that truly sticks 💛 A sweet, peaceful way to begin our day together

Poetry has a way of slipping into the heart through beauty, rhythm, and truth—and I love that Lucy is not only gaining an appreciation for words, but also becoming a stronger reader as we go.

Here are the two levels available:

📗 My Second Poetry Reader

Highly recommend for homeschoolers—or anyone who wants to add a little more goodness and grace to the morning routine.
