Last night was Lucy’s Meet the Teacher Night, and I couldn’t help but feel so thankful for the unique path we’ve found in her education. While I homeschool Lucy at home, she also attends a local Christian Homeschool Connection Program one day a week. It’s the perfect hybrid that gives her both the freedom and depth of homeschooling and the social joys of a traditional school.

This will be Lucy’s second year in the program, and she walked through those school doors with pride, practically glowing as she showed us around like an old pro. She pointed out her locker, found her desk, and made sure we said hello to each of her teachers. Her excitement reminded me why we love this program so much—it really does give her the best of both worlds.

On Wednesdays, she gets to dive into STEM projects, worship, gym, music, art, and Spanish—all in a group setting that stretches her in new ways. But what I love most? She also gets the chance to be a kid in the traditional sense: to have recess with friends, exchange Valentine’s Day cards, and experience Christmas parties and group projects. These may seem like small things, but they’re the fabric of childhood memories, and I’m so glad she doesn’t miss out on them.
For our family, this program has been such a blessing. At home, Lucy can move at her own pace—soaring ahead where she’s ready and lingering where she needs to. And then once a week, she gets to enjoy the community, structure, and social experiences of a school day. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach, and that’s what makes it so beautiful.
Last night wasn’t just about meeting teachers. It was about seeing Lucy step confidently into another year of learning, growing, and belonging. And that makes this homeschool mama’s heart so full. 💛
